INFORMATION STUDIES
SENIOR LECTURER
Francis Garaba joined the Lutheran Theological Institute (LTI) Library, in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa as a Manuscript Librarian in 2011. Together with Annalise Zaverdinos, they professionally managed the Library and the Archives Units which was a source of pride and joy for the LTI community, the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) and the Pietermaritzburg Cluster of Theological Libraries (PCTL). Conference papers about the library and archives at the LTI were presented locally and internationally. Some of the papers were later published in peer-reviewed journals and do appear in this treatise. He resigned in 2014 to join the University of Fort Hare (UFH) in the Eastern Cape in 2015 as a Senior Lecturer in records and archives. In June 2016, he moved back to KwaZulu-Natal to join UKZN as a Senior Lecturer in Archival Studies. He still has contacts with the remaining personnel and students at LTI which greatly assisted in the compilation of this paper through informal talks and observation as the LTI and the UKZN, Pietermaritzburg campus are adjacent to each other. Witnessing first-hand the demolition and the ensuing rubble of one side of this former great institution has not been easy.
