Lieza Louw

Lieza Louw is a Senior Lecturer at the University of the Witwatersrand’s School of Arts. She enjoys working with young people, using a hands-on teaching environment to share and transfer skills. After graduating from UCT, she acted briefly as a science and mathematics teacher before becoming one of the first female photographers at the Sunday paper Rapport. She then joined the film industry, working with celebrated South African filmmakers before launching a solo career as producer/director. Her professional work includes documentary films, environmental and educational programmes, and corporate work for Wits and the Cradle of Humankind. As a documentary filmmaking, academic, her research interests are mostly focussed on the use of testimonials, aspects of memory and remembrance, and visual archival material as construction elements for imagining historical and other realities.
